What is Coaching?
‘Coaching’ – An Interesting Fact
The word ‘coach’ comes from the Hungarian word ‘kocsi’, meaning ‘carriage’. Derived from the name of a small Hungarian town Kocs, which designed the highest quality carriages way back in the 16th century.
‘Coaching’ refers to a journey of positive change (from A to B) and my role as your coach is to join you; as a facilitator; on your journey.
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) definition: –
“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.”
In my own words I describe coaching as:
“Supporting clients to find answers and make positive change for themselves.”
My Coaching
My life has been a long lesson in failure, success, putting one foot in front of the other and, at times, simply carrying on. My life lessons, and my reflections on them, are by far my most relevant ‘qualifications’.
In addition, I have a Level 7 coaching qualification from the world-renowned coaching centre at Henley Business School (UK). I am both an accredited coach and a member of The International Coaching Federation (ICF) and I have coached both individuals and presented to many firms and business owners over the years.
Person Centred – My belief is that people are highly complex individuals living in a highly complex world and each individual is the best ‘expert’ on their own life. As such, my role is to support clients to find their own answers as to how to make positive change in the areas of their life they want to.
Everyone is an individual and in my experience, change can come relatively quickly for many, takes longer for others, but requires ‘work’ for all. If you want to take the first step towards making positive change, please request a Chemistry Chat here.
“I coach from my failures and what I learned from them, my successes and what I gained from them, but above all from my wounds and how I dealt with them.”
A Partnership of Equals
Focused on the client and their needs, I prioritise both building and maintaining a relationship – a relationship built on ‘partnering as equals’ to support the client in making the positive change they want to make.
An Integrative Approach
My style of coaching can best be described as ‘Integrative’ – drawing on numerous evidence based psychological approaches which have been researched and built over many years. Instead of being fixated on a single approach, I blend different approaches to meet the unique needs of each client.
Integrative coaching recognises that individuals are multifaceted, with physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions. Rather than focusing solely on one aspect, I believe it tries to consider the whole person – to meet them wherever it is they are and to support them in the journey to wherever it is they want to go.
I look forward to partnering with you on your journey!
